A Retweet allows Twitter users to share their favourite tweets with their own followers.
So if someone has 10,000 followers and they like one of your tweets and they retweet it, then it will go out to all of their followers, good eh!
It is done by copying and pasting the original tweet and sending it out. It’s usual to put “RT” plus the originator’s username at the beginning of the tweet. Here’s an example:
RT@thebizwoman: How to monetize your blog!
Obviously, if you regularly tweet great content then people will pick up on it and retweet you. They will also retweet you if your tweets are relevant to them or even, dare I say it, complementary.
A good way to get people to retweet you is to ask to be retweeted.
This works really well if your tweets are for a good cause or are likely to be helpful to your follower’s audience.
Here’s an example:
Entrepreneurs – learn how to monetize your blog PLEASE RETWEET ME!
This is only about 66 character; very important if you don’t want retweets with clipped off ends as you are only allowed a total of 140 characters in your tweets.
It is always better to simplify the procedure for your retweeter.
There is a great little application called PleaseRT.me – http://pleasert.me/
You add your tweet and it makes you keep it short then it adds a plea for a retweet at the end of your message, (I’m saying “message” because I’m fed up of saying “tweet”), which your follower can then click on to easily retweet without all the copy and pasting.
You can try it out now by retweeting this post.
Let’s face it if you don’t ask you don’t get!
Pat Sutton – Official Blog, http://www.patsutton.com
In my previous blog “6 steps closer to monetising your blog” I said that you need:
1. Patience
2. Resilience.
3. A great imagination.
4. Knowledge.
5. The discipline to learn.
6. Multiple Income streams?
Today I am going to tell you about the next 6 items you need:
1. Products that sell well.
2. A great mailing list.
3. An easy to use e-mail marketing system.
4. To be seen on the first page of Google.
5. A membership site with real value.
6. Private advertisers.
It is very difficult to find a product that sells - the Internet has spawned an enormous amount of “get rich quick” schemes. Some are great but some are…quite honestly, a mis-representation.
My rule of thumb is…if it sounds too good to be true then it is too good to be true!
I am sure that some people actually do make a lot of money from these businesses but they usually have a large infrastructure behind them.
When they say stuff like, “make money while you sleep” it does ring alarm bells for me!
In saying that, a busy blog site with the right money making products can actually make money for you while you sleep but you need to work very hard when you’re awake to get it!
I have made a pact with myself, I will only sell products that I firmly believe in, like my Bloggers Workbook. This course actually helped me to change my hobby blog into a great
business.
So my advice to you is to only sell the stuff that you would use yourself, that way you have more conviction in your sales pitch.
The mailing list is your life’s blood. Always have a sign up box on your website. If you can give something away as a sweetener then that is even better. Make sure that it is something worth having.
I would like to E-SHOUT an important point at you….do not abuse your mailing list. If they have signed up to receive a newsletter then that is what you should send them. Your marketing can be inside your newsletter.
If thay have signed up to a general mailing list then you have a little more freedom but the content of anything you send to them should be, value, value, value, a subtle sales pitch, then more value.
There are many marketing systems out there, the one I use is Aweber, I find them the easiest to use and one of the cheapest. There are many more like IContact, Constant Contact, Getresponse.
The marketing sytem works by allowing you to set up e-mail campaigns. So when your visitor registers to be added to your mailing list it automatically generates an e-mail from your
marketing system to ask them to confirm their subscription, (they call, this opting in). Once they have confirmed then the massages that you will have previously set up will arrive into
their inbox either daily, weekly monthly or what ever days you have chosen.
It’s as simple as that!
The beauty of this system is that any new subscriber, no matter when they join, will receive the first message and then the second and so on.
You can actually configure your sign up box within the system too!
We would all love to be seen on the first pages of the search engines and if you are selling something unique then you will probably be there after a couple of days. But there are many
thousands of blogging sites out there, all trying to get to the top spots so the competition is fearce for us.
My answer for you is to do what you do best…blogs, blogs, blogs and more blogs.
When you write your blog on your website you need to also upload it to the best networking sites as well, sites like EZines, Ecademy, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
There is an easy way to do this. Make sure that you have social bookmarking share buttons at the bottom of your blog. Once in situe on your website it can be sent out across the web in no time at all.
Here is a screanshot of Google today, notice how my last blog, “6 steps closer to monetising your blog”, has actually got three….not just one spot, on the front page of Google and that’s not paying a penny in advertising. If you’re having trouble seeing this then try searching, “How to monetise your blog”.
Clever eh!
A membership site
You can provide products, a course or service…these are good if you want members to pay on a monthly basis thus generating a residual income for you. See ours here!
You have a choice how you sell it.
You can have a free membership that will help you to generate a mailing list of a captive audience.
Or you can have a “Join now for $1 or first month FREE offer”.
What ever the offering there is one thing that is paramount….give them a risk free call to action!
Think of all the things that would be going through your head at that moment before you joined.
Will this instigate spam?
Is there a catch?
If I don’t like it, can I have my money back?
Can I hear from someone who has used this?
Do I trust this person?
Will my hair fall out?
Will my………
At this point you need to think of everything they are likely to say to themselves and address that problem…such as money back guarantees, full contact details of the vendor, testimonials
of satisfied customers, no spam etc.etc.
If you get it right, a membership can build and build to make you some serious money that you can actually earn while you sleep.
Private Advertisers are those elusive companies who may be prepared to pay you a nice tidy sum to have their banners all over your blog.
Be-careful, what you gain in money you could lose in loyal readers.
Although it always amazes me how people think that us bloggers are doing this out of the goodness of our hearts, we stay up all hours researching and writing all for no financial remuneration…get real guys… as they say, “The baker puts bread on your table, not to feed your family but to feed his own“.
Pat Sutton – Official Blog http://www.PatSutton.com
You know, one of the easiest things to do on the internet is to assume that people are not being honest and that they are only talking to you because they have something to sell. Who do you think is to blame for that? We are of-course!
Have you noticed on the social networks how many people make a connection and then immediately try to sell you something. I am the first one to admit that that was my tactic when I first started social marketing on the web.
It’s like getting into a Taxi and saying hello to the driver and in your next breath introducing your product to him. If you were that taxi driver, what would you think?
If, however, you have a long drive with him and you allow him to tell you about his family and his gripes and likes. You could chat to him about how busy he has been and you could comment on how clever he is to remember all the obscure places, he will eventually feel connected to you. He will then, more than likely, ask you what it is that you do. You will then have the opportunity to tell him about your business or product. Remember though, it is still not the best time to sell to him until you have told him about yourself. You need him to see you as a normal, kind, human person who he can trust and that he can see as the type of person he would want to buy from. I am not saying that taxi drivers are likely customers but I am sure you know what I mean?
If you really want to find people to buy into your product or business, you must first help them to buy into you. Your online profile should be the best you can possible make it and your picture should show you smiling and looking approachable. It’s important that you do not come over too professional, you should seem to your prospective customer like someone who could be living next door to him.
Your resume is important but remember not all of us have a great academic education, many of us are self taught, as am I, do not be ashamed of that. Many of your prospective customers will, themselves, not have traditional training but some of the best entrepreneurs have started just like that.
Jim Rohn, the founder of Herbalife, as an example, started selling and made a fortune out of health products because of his mother’s enthusiasm for healthy foods not because he had a fantastic academic career.

I’m often asked how to make money from Blogging.
Not wanting to dampen enthusiasm, it’s not a get rich quick scheme.
But it’s not impossible.
To get you there you need to have these six crucial skills:
1. Patience
2. Resilience.
3. A great imagination.
4. Knowledge.
5. The discipline to learn.
6. Multiple Income streams?
Why patience you say?
If you do everything right.
Join blogging forums, create networks of friends and acquaintances, got seen on social media websites and actively collaborate on other blog websites.
Then it can still take months, even years before your have any kind of recognition.
With a legible writing style and perseverance you will make it in the end!
Resilience?
By resilience, I mean being able to take it on the chin!
Being able to fail without labelling yourself a failure.
Being successful at something doesn’t make you a success. When that publisher or editor rejects you, pick yourself up and start all over again with even more resiliance!
A Great Imagination is imperative!
You need to be able to see outside the box.
Knowledge and information is widely available on the web but you need to have the imagination to create a useful blog from that information. When you compose your next blog you need to know who your target audience is going to be, then you need to work out ways of getting in front of them.
Your title, (absolutely essential if you want your blog to be read), needs to grab them and say, “READ ME!”.
Knowledge.
It is all too easy for someone to claim to be an expert.
There’s no Internet police checking your credentials but I believe “what goes around comes around” so don’t copy, don’t pinch other’s stuff and don’t claim to be what you are not!
A lot of people will read other blogs and articles and do a good job of copying them by not copying them. But it is easy to recognise the fakers. Take a look at their other work. If the writing style is different every time then they are probably seasoned fake artists.
Don’t get me wrong, we all do our research, that’s what the web is for, but there’s a lot of difference between learning and passing that knowledge on and copying someone elses articles and changing a few phrases.
If I see something that excites me, then I print the article and read it and then do my report on it. This is a great lesson as not having it sitting there on your computer you are not tempted to copy and paste – you have to use your own words.
One more point on KNOWLEDGE. As is normal with a business, you must be prepared to invest financially – you could do worse than taking up a few subscriptions for products and courses on good blogger’s websites, you will be amazed how much you’ll learn.
The Discipline to Learn.
If you want to keep up with the times you need to be ever evolving. The Internet and Social Media changes on a daily basis.
What was a great strategy yesterday could be a waste of time today.
When I first started to market my blogs on Twitter, I was in-undated with visits to my website even though my followers were under a thousand. Now I have many thousand followers yet the response has not gone up that much in relation. I am afraid that we are victims of our own actions.
We know that most people who ask us to pop over to their website for some great stuff are almost certainly going to have a hidden agenda and alteria motives. But that’s Ok if what you get from then is of value!
If you are like me and you are always inquisitive to see if there are any snippets of information that you can pass on to your readers then you may well profit from these opportunities but many of you are probably far too busy, so the offerings are ignored.
The lesson here is, don’t be too hasty, if there is one thing that has come out of all this, it is that people know that if they give something of value then people will be attracted to them or their business so it is rare that the info is worthless.
Mutliple income streams!
Google AdSense on your website? You’re not going to get rich but you can make enough to pay for the odd evening out. Good affiliates? They may bring in a little more than AdSense, but you have to have a mighty busy website to make any real money from affiliates.
The most efficient way of getting closer to monetising your blog is to create a subscriber list. As they say, “The Money Is In The List!”.
Create a subscribe box on your website where they can get something worthwhile for free then once you have your subscribers you can start to work on the relationship. When they see you as a leader and as an expert in your field then you can start to market to them. The format is: give them good stuff, give them more good stuff, give them more good stuff then, when you have their attention, do the pitch then follow that with more good stuff. Be careful, gently does it! You don’t want them to un-subscribe.

6 steps closer to monetising your blog! The content of your website tells your visitors all about you and your business; it is your shop window. The problem is that if your shop is on a back street and you have no passers by then you need to get people to take a detour down your street! It’s easy, you put a sandwich board out with key phrases to grab their attention?
So what can you do to get people to come to you on the web?
Good blogs and articles will lead people to your site if they are written with good content that includes the important relevant key words.
So how does good content and great articles get you traffic? Well, many search engines rely on the keyword and keyword phrases of a site to put it in their results list. If your content contains a good number of keywords and keywords phrases, it may be chosen to be a part of the top listed sites in the search result pages.
But before you think of just plastering your site and articles with all the keywords and keyword phrases you can, remember that the search engine police will notice if you are trying to abuse the system and will most certainly penalise you. You must have good well written articles that incorporate the keywords and keyword phrases properly in their content.
I know it’s difficult as many of you will say that you just don’t have the time to write your own website blogs and articles. But if you can find the time, articles specifically designed for the internet will take some getting used to and a certain amount of expertise to create but it is well worth the effort.
There are writers who have great experience in doing this and charge only a minimal fee for such work. Writers like this can be regarded as experts in this style of writing and can greatly help your website to get that coveted spot in the search engine rankings.
Other than getting your site in the web results page of search engines, they can also provide your site with meaningful articles and content that can impress your website visitors and entice others to view your site. This is the type of thing that makes your website “sticky” and if you set up an RSS feed button on your website they may even subscribe to your articles and the search engines love that!
Of-course, if the mountain won’t come to Mohamed………..I take my website via Articles and Blogs to the mountain.
Articles once written, can be posted across the web to drive traffic back to your website. Sort of like a virtual sandwich board.
Depending on the number of words needed, usually, a two hundred and fifty word article would cost from about $30, (about £20 in English money). This is a small price to pay for having a content rich, well researched and written paper on your website and it is a lot cheaper than a Google Adwords campaign.
It is easy to find a good writer as these days most authors will have blog sites or articles published on websites like EzineArticles.com where you can read some of their work to get an idea of their type of writing. But what is important is that the writer has the knowledge to “write for the search engines” as well.

Ok, what next?

My lovely grand daughters - all wrapped up!
The first thing I need to do is to go back over the archives and delete all my earlier muses.
In the early days, as is usual for blog virgins, my impression of a blog was something that no sane person would ever read or be interested in. So my first blogs were indulgent, grammatically terrible and some were even downright silly.
But as my hand hovers over the delete button I hesitate….wait a minute…this is like throwing out an old photograph album.
There’s the one about my dog Sadie, now gone, who was miraculously cured of cancer by a Spirit healer. And the time a had my cat trimmed and she looked like one of those nodding animals you put in the back window of your car.
Then there are the feelings I had when starting a new job or moving house.
I recorded my first days on Facebook and how cheeky people were, asking to be “my friend” when they didn’t even know me!
Of-course, I would hate for all you guys with discerning tastes to read these old blogs but I am definately not going to dispose of them. I’m going to print them up and stick them into a scrap book for posterity.
Maybe one day one of my grand daughters will find them and will read them to their children…how strange it will be to them…how old fashioned it will seem!
This time of Ipods, webcams and Twitter will be an archaic, bygone age to them!
I wish I had written more!

Confessions of a Blogger. How often have you received an e-mail or message saying – Hello, I am Joe Blogs and I am so excited to get to know you, why not pop over to my website and.…I know you have because I have, in fact I have probably been the guilty party. In fact I do believe that I have a direct message exactly like that set up to thank people who follow me on Twitter….damn!
Phew! Just got back from Twitter and changed all my thank you messages!
They will come!!!
So how can you build a rapport with someone enough to get them to buy from you?
First you need to build up your profile.
It is very important that you have your own website or Blog where people can read all about you, your exploits and expertise.
Nowadays it is very easy to set up a blog and if you sign up to Wordpress, for a small monthly fee, you can create as many websites or Blogs as you want. They have great templates and with a little knowledge it is simple to create a seriously professional looking website.
You should then join some great professional networking groups such as LinkedIn, Ecademy and Plaxo.
So what should your profile look like?
Remember, your profile is to promote you first then your business second.
Below are 6 the most important factors when creating your profile:
1. Your profile must have a picture of you, I can not stress this enough!
2. If, like me, you are self taught and your education history is not outstanding then leave it out.
3. The important part of your profile is your work experience. This is where you must not be afraid to “BIG” yourself up. I am not saying that you should lie, I am saying that you should accentuate!
Here is an example:
Pat Sutton – 2000 – 2009 Marketing Director – Advantage Business Angels
or
Pat Sutton – 2000 – 2009 Marketing Director – Advantage Business Angels where Sutton was instrumental in securing more than £21 million of investment for small to medium sized companies.
4. Your hobbies and interests. Here you should mention all the things you are passionate about. If someone is looking at your profile and teetering on the edge of contacting you and you happen to mention that you love James Taylor’s music and so do they then it could well push them over the edge. Be-careful though if you have controversial tastes, you don’t want to lose them because they don’t agree with you on something.
5. Where you are based. If your product or service is aimed at the local market then of-course it is advisable to mention that you are local, in fact it is imperative, but if your product is for a national or even world wide audience then I would not publish your locality.
6. Your expertise. It is important that people see you are an expert and a leader but they must also see you as approachable and friendly.
Very important – be careful once you have made that first contact with someone, too many people jump in with the hard sell before they have built a relationship.
Learn about them first, you do this by learning to listen. How many of us wait with baited breath to jump into a conversation with a witty comment. You literally spend all the time people are talking to prepare yourself for your contribution to the conversation rather than really listening to what they are saying.
Listening is power – if you listen you will learn what others want. A good sales person will use the information deemed from listening to create follow up questions. So listen in order to understand. Once you have listened then follow up with questions, this makes people feel important. If you have made them feel more important you are on the right track to creating a positive relationship.
So:
1. Listen – to hear them, not to give you an “in” to speak.
2. Listen – to remember, nothing makes more of an impact than you remembering important details and then building a conversation around those details.
3. Listen – to boost their ego, nothing is more of a favourite topic than talking about one’s self. Encourage them to talk about themselves.
4. Listen – So that you will learn what is their pain and you can then show them ways to help relieve the pain.
This is my magic formula – First create a profile that people will be drawn to.
Build relationships because relationships are the key to profit.
Make contact, communicate, listen and remember. At the right time, use the power of the follow up question to show them the way to relieve their pain.
Pat Sutton is the author of “The Image Attraction System” http://www.TheImageAttractionSystem.com
You can have the best looking website in the world, the best products ever invented, the most eye catching advertisements and a service second to none but if you don’t tell your customers how to buy from you then all your hard work is wasted!
If you want the reader to buy your product or take you up on your service, then tell him so, tell him what to do to pay now!
Unless you enjoy entertaining your prospects with your beautiful writing skills, always demand that he complete the sale now, by taking action now – by calling a telephone number, by clicking a pay now button or by writing his cheque and rushing it to the post office.
So how can you stimulate your prospect to act?
1. You could offer a reward of some kind.
However, in mentioning the reward or bonus, be very careful that you don’t end up receiving requests for the bonus with mountains of requests for refunds on the product to follow.
The bonus should be mentioned only casually if you are asking for product orders; and with lots of fanfare only when you are seeking inquiries.
2. Specify a time limit. Tell your prospect that he must act within a certain time limit or lose out on the bonus, face probably higher prices, or even the withdrawal of your offer. This is always a good hook to get action.
3. Offer a good guarantee. Any kinds of guarantee you offer always helps produce action from the prospect.
And the more liberal you can make your guarantee, the more product orders you will receive.
Be sure you state the guarantee clearly and simply. It is important to make it so easy to understand that even a child would not misinterpret what you are saying.
4. Spell out to them the whole procedure, in other words what will happen once they have paid.
5. If applicable, tell them how quickly they will receive their purchase. It really annoys me when I buy something only to find that there is a 3 week delivery time. I always want my purchase yesterday and I like to see clearly on the front page of the website how soon I will get it, for me, this will make the difference as to whether I buy or not!
So remember, the action you want your prospect to take should be easy – clearly stated – and devoid of any complicated procedural steps on their part.
The easier you make it for them to respond, the more responses you’ll get!

Do you have what it takes to be really successful? Have you ever thought about what you must be prepared to endure and do in order to be successful in business or your career?
I think I have been asked at least 5,000 times what it really takes to be successful in business, so I jotted down 10 questions you can use to gauge whether you already have what it takes, or if you need to do a little “work” to get there.
Many years ago I heard Jim Rohn say that you either pay the price of discipline or the price of regret. Discipline weighs ounces… regret weighs tons! With that said, here are 10 questions to ask yourself:
1. Are you disciplined?
2. Do you take rejection personally? What about criticism?
3. Do you bounce back quickly from making errors or failing over and over again?
4. Are you a planner or do you do things by the seat of your pants?
5. Are you prepared to take risks? Moderate or Big?
6. Do you stay focused on one thing and one thing only until the result you want is achieved?
7. Do you have the stamina to keep going long after everyone else is tired?
8. Can you delegate well, or are you the only one who can do things right?
9. Do you wait for things to happen or do you aggressively go after what you want?
10. Do you do whatever it takes to achieve your goals or just what’s convenient?
These questions are critical for you to ask yourself in order to get a true picture of your nature and behavior.
What I have found is that successful people are aware of the consequences of not being efficient in these areas, and find other ways, resources or people to manage for them.
Food for thought?
Remember to create a masterpiece!

10 QUESTIONS: DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES? By John AssarafPeople often ask me about the benefit of having a membership site.
I have 3 networking membership sites that are free to join and are self populating.
Once set up, these sites tend to need very little administration but, although they do not generate any direct revenue apart from occasional affiliate earnings, they have immense value to me.
Let’s take a look at my Women’s Peer Network,
At the time of writing I have a membership of 266 business women who have written 119 blog posts and started 18 forums. They have 14 groups ranging from Blogging to Arts and Crafts to Women in Golf.
As the founder of the network I have been invited to speak at events, join company boards and consume many delicious lunches.
If I, or one of my members, has a product or service we would like to promote, we have a captive audience. I am sure the members have generated many fruitful relationships through this network. Yes it is a labour of love but it allows me to feed my passion for helping women in business.
Now let’s take a look at the paid membership site.
This relates back to my “Image Attraction System“. If you want people to agree to pay you good money for what you have to offer then you need to have first “upped” your image to such an extent that they see you as a leader, a mentor and an expert in your field. I am not saying that you should lie – but you should not be afraid to “blow your own trumpet”!
So if you plan to launch a paid membership site you had better have prepared your “Image” first.
You need to give your prospect a reason to believe that you can deliver. You need to “shout” credibility!
How can you do this?
Well first you should have a great profile across all the social and business networks where you must make a conscious effort to engage with people, (not pitching to them- but building relationships).
This is how you set about being seen!
You can join forums and groups where they are talking about your chosen subject. It is always beneficial to leave comments on other people’s entries and blog posts always remembering to use your full name and website if possible, you’ll be surprised how many people will recognise you and then search you out.
For me, I built my “Image” through Blogging.
I blog about Internet Marketing, Personal Development and The Tarot. I research the things that interested me and then I write about them. If you are becoming good at something and you can see it working for you then with a little research you may well be on a path to becoming an expert in it and can pass that information on.
Don’t get me wrong, when I say expert, I mean
expert.
Internet Marketing, as an example, changes every day. What worked last week may well not work this week. You need to keep up with the times by reading newsletters, blogs and articles, taking courses and attending seminars.
A good source of information is to set up Google Alerts. You can choose news feeds to be delivered to your inbox everyday that will keep you up to date with the latest trends.
The trouble with the internet and the social networks, is that many people will declare themselves to be experts when actually all they have done is read an article or two.
Look for ways that you can prove your credibility. I have reccomendations and testimonials on my website from people I have worked with and workshops I have delivered.
If you haven’t got this far yet then be honest, offer your services for free and if people are happy with what you have done for them then ask them for reccomendations.
OK, so you’ve built your image and are seen as an expert – now what?
Decide what you are going to offer to your members!
As an example:
Our membership site is a Marketing Vault, where you have resources such as e-books, videos and software with articles and newsletters delivered to your inbox.
Your membership site could have many products or just one on-going product such as a course or knowledge base. It’s up to you.
Decide what you are going to charge for membership!
We charge a small subscription of $19.95 a month. We find that it is expensive enough to show a value in the membership but not too expensive to put people off.
Lower may devalue your offering and higher may generate less sign ups.
If you feel you would prefer a higher price therefore less people joining then that is your choice. I personally think that the money is in the list. The more people who join the better.
So let’s summarise:
It’s by helping others and giving them information that they would not easily find on their own that builds your credibility and gives other people confidence in your expertise.
A good membership site can generate a great residual income so it’s worth getting it right by preparing properly. You first, your business later.
