The Web Celeb Builder

The best affiliates for your blog.

A lot of people ask me to suggest affiliates. They want to know which ones are the most effective at monetising their blog. I suppose it would be safe to say that I have done a hell of a lot of research on this subject as bad choices can make the difference between a profitable blogging business and bad choices can mean no business at all.

It is a difficult one because it all depends on your target audience.
Of-course there are some great generic ones like Chitika which is an online advertising network which works a little like Adsense. For me Chitika far surpasses Adsense because not only can you earn with click throughs you can also earn a residual income for 15 months on your referrals earnings.
To clarify, if you sign up to run Chitika ads, (incidentally it’s FREE), then your referrer earns a little bit from your earnings for 15 months and anyone who joins the scheme through you will generate a little residual income for you on their earnings and so on.
Then you have Amazon. This is good if your site attracts visitors from just one location. If like me, your website is read by people from all over the world then they are not likely to buy a book from Amazon.co.uk if they are based in the US, nor would a UK visitor want to buy from a US Amazon site. This is a big flaw in Amazon’s system, I am sure one day they will sort it but at the moment it’s pants!
If you are looking for “set it and forget it” affiliates then you could do worse than joining people like Affiliate Window . When you join these schemes, and there are many, you can search for products that would appeal to your visitors and pick how you want to display your ads, copy the code, upload to your website and Bob’s your uncle!

If you want a more active involvement, (mad fool), then sign up with a couple of direct marketing companies. You can actually get involved with the marketing by sending e-mails to your mailing list and interacting with people on the social networks.

After a lot of expensive failures, I now champion Mike Dillard’s products , because I really do believe his products and courses are genius and The Publishing Academy because they are helping me with my, soon to be published, book and they are great and Darren Rowse’s 31 Days to Build a better Blog because this course gave me the confidence and knowledge I needed to take the plunge and give up my day job to become a professional blogger.

One important note. If, like me, you believe that what goes around comes around then don’t dupe your visitors by selling something to them that you don’t believe in yourself. If you haven’t tried it and liked it then don’t sell it!

I was reading a great blog the other day about using video for marketing purposes and the writer suggested getting the little Flip video recorder to carry with you all the time. He had found one of the cheapest places to buy it so I had no problem with buying through his link.
There is a moral here. If you are going to affiliate to a company, make sure they are competitive in their prices otherwise people will just take the name and buy it on Ebay.

The links in this post are my affiliate links and I will earn a little if you click on them or buy through them but heh…..if I didn’t monetise my blog I wouldn’t be able to give you all this great information would I?
